Post 5: Friday Dec.17,2010 Hours and project
The things I am going to do today are file, and just help around with whatever needs to be done here. I am not on track with my hours because I do 5 hours a week and I missed one week so that slowed me down even more, but I plan on coming during winter break to get some extra hours so I can be caught up with everyone else. Also the amount of hour s i have including today is 15 hours which is not good considering that I should be at 35 today. So I really need to step it up also another thing I'm going to do to catch up with my hours is since I help volunteer at my church with the little kids in Childrens church I'm going to count those hours since I volunteer there too on Sunday's. So I'm hoping that can help me as well to get my hours up. I'm still lost on what it is that I want to do as my project because I might be able to get involved with the kids here but lately I've been working in the main office so maybe I can just do my project on how to run a successful Childrens school, as well as running a smooth and relaxed office? So that might be my essential question for the project but like I said I'm still unsure. I haven't actually taken pictures yet of the office that I work in or the classes, as well as the campus here at Mills college, but today I bought my camera today so that's what I will be accomplishing today.
Post: 9 description of my workplace
My workplace is very relaxed, and smooth Children School located at Mills college In Oakland,Ca. Everyone that I work with in the office are all friendly and we all get along with each other which is great. Also where I actually work is right by the door so when I'm working on the computer I can see outside because there is a huge window right here. I can look outside and see trees, flowers and the education building its kinda like a forest here too. Now behind me is one of my mentors(Cheryl) desk which is always covered with beautiful flowers, across from both of us is My other Mentor Ms. Browns office. As you walk passed my desk into the next room there is the library and then passed that is the lovely work room.
The entire Children school is one I haven't seen so far, each grade(s)/age has their own building, so for example there is a set of stairs you have to walk down to reach my office and the two buildings down here are separated into two groups one the Elementary and the other Pre-school and at the top of the stairs is the younger Pre-school like babies. What makes the classrooms so different is that each classroom has an play area right outside their class, and then there's one main play ground for recess. what's so cute about the the younger kids building is that there is a room in the middle, and that's where the kids have their nap time, also each building has a set of rest rooms, and a kitchen.
I would say that my workplace is a medium sized business, and I don't really know how many people work here all together I just know each teacher has a student teacher who is actually enrolled as a student here at mills. So the work I mainly do is file kids paper work, and organize the office in whole.

Post 8: Looking at other peoples blogs
It seems like everyone who blogs I read are the same as mines, everyone seems to be working with children and schools. I also feel like we're learning the same things: keep organized and help with kids. I read Haleigh's,Shawna, Jasmine H.,Montrel,Madilyn, Jordan C., and NaeNae. I wouldn't say anyone had the best blogs, I felt like reading all of theirs was really good, and interesting to read about their day and what exactly they did. Also it doesn't seem like a lot of people are blogging because I went to a couple of students blogs and there was nothing there not even the 1st blog so I could at least know what their job is. I plan on showing Nick how to do his blogs so he can get his grade up in A.S, and plus he's my boyfriend so I have to be there to help him when he needs it.
Being at my internship for almost 2 months is still fun to me, but I mean some work days are slower than others but that's usual for a business. Overall I don't want to leave because I feel this experience was amazing and helped me more with my organization skills, but I hope to keep in touch with my mentors. Also last week I worked with the kids and it was so fun,and I don't want to leave it's getting more and more fun to me.

Break : December 21, 2010
Today I came to my Internship so I can receive more hours to catch up, and be on track with everyone else. So today what I'm going to do is just help organize the office because the Children School is closed for winter break. Also one thing I'm going to do today is go into the basement to get old files, pull applications and write them down in excel, also I'm going to send off some of the kids toys that are still here , so I'm going to send them to their homes. But overall today is going to be a relaxed day, to just organize the office and file.
Post 4: Friday Dec. 10, 2010: Leadership Skills
The leadership skills that I'm using are Collaborating productively, and Communicating Powerfully. The reasons for this is because I'm currently working in the Children's School Office and in order to work in a successful office you need to use these Leadership skills. For example when I'm given a task to do something I have to Communicate with My mentor if I'm confused/lost. Also like when I'm assigned to file the kids information we communicate back and forth so we both know what's going on, and like I said I ask questions when I;m lost or to just make sure I understand how to do the assignment. Some skills that I'm learning here are that It's best when things are organized because then you can find everything and be less stressed, I also learned this skill from school because you have to be organized when you're in school that's just how it goes, Also here I'm getting a better understanding of why its easier to be organized and put together because I may later o in life want to open my own business of child care and I need to know how things are ran, and how to be more successful in life. My role as a student is the same as an intern but then again very similar because at school you're suppose to be respectful and more open and here that's what I do, I am respectful, and open. Also another thing that are the same is that I need to be professional here and at school, so the roles are similar for now.
Post 3: why I didn't go to my Internship
The reason I did not attend my WLE Internship was because I was out of town with my Father visiting my family in Bakersfield,Ca. That friday morning I left, and drove for 5 hours then once I got there I just sat there and comforted m Sister who is pregnant which is why I traveled out there the baby was expected to come but didn't. But I had a wonderful time out there for the weekend because I never get to see my brother and my sister, and my 1st nephew so it was great.
Post 1: My first day at Mill's Children School
Once I arrived at my Internship I got a tour of the campus well just the Children School. Then I got introduced to a couple of the teachers as well as the other employees. After that I came into the main office where I'm working and started to get down to business. The first thing I did was use the program excel to type up Alumni's names and addresses and things like that. Thats what I did for the day. Overall I had a good day it was chill and just relaxed. Also I Feel as though my mentor likes me and we get along well so I'm sure there will be no problems, But like I was saying overall I enjoy my time here at the Mills Children School and I think it would be a great experience for me.
Intro Post: How I got my internship
The story behind getting my Internship goes like this: So first I started off as just looking up different Schools, Day cares, and Pre-Schools. The process was very difficult for me because I called many places and left messages and heard no response. When I did get in touch with someone, and thought that I had an Internship and I didn't because I got a email from the Pre-School saying that I couldn't do it anymore, which made me very upset to the point where I wanted to give up. So I gave up the search for a Internship for a couple of days then I came across Mills College website because I was doing a college search and Mills was sending me applications and things, so some how I ended up finding out that they had a children's school, so I wrote the email down and called the phone number. Once I finally got to speak with someone I asked if they were interested in my high schools program WLE, and I offered to email some of the documents to her and a little overall story about the program, so after a week of waiting she emailed me back saying I needed to speak with the head director the Children School so I reached out to her, and waited and waited. So the weekend before the first week I got an email back saying they were interested in having me there !!
